HOW A GOOD IDEA GOT MORE ORDERS AND ENTHRALLED FOOD LOVERS:

More orders and they were lovin’ it! That defined McDonald’s AR game filter in partnership with Swiggy. And the brains behind this one’s Wit and Chai, formerly known as Nilgiri Social.

We partnered with McDonald’s India North & East and Swiggy to conceptualize this campaign where netizens could gorge on their favourite McDonald’s fries virtually. Adding to the excitement, users with maximum score won McDonald’s vouchers that could be redeemed on Swiggy.

To try their hands on the filter, users had to select the filter from Swiggy’s Instagram page filters section or had to search the “Fries Down Challenge” filter from the effects list in Instagram. Once selected and tapped to play, French fries began falling from the top of the screen and the tally appeared over the user’s head. Users then had to catch the falling fries by opening their mouth to eat them. Post the game, the AR filter recorded the final score.

The launch of the AR game was supported by #FryItUpFridays – an exclusive, Friday-specific deal on the McDonald’s World Famous Fries. A one day opportunity, this challenge went on from 10am to 8pm on August 14, 2020. As part of this irresistible offer, anyone who placed a McDelivery order via Swiggy, of or above a total of Rs.350 on Fridays, got a pack of medium fries absolutely free.

We drove awareness to the campaign, and how! More than 66 lakh Swiggy users were reached through emails, generating a huge user base to interact with social media posts that were put out by Swiggy and McDonalds. We got macro influencers rolling in to put up fun and engaging stories.
3.5 Million followers was a minimum that each influencers was reaching out to.

And what comes next shouldn’t be a surprise then! We shot for the sky and it hit the right spot! Have a look at the results –

  • Total impressions on the filter – 473K
  • Number of engagements – 42.9K
  • Total number of clicks and shares – 13.2K

Not just that, but this story filter took Instagram enthusiasts such as Kusha Kapila, Heli Daruwala and others into a frenzy!

And what did it cost? 3.8L! We were able to achieve amazing engagement at just Rs.9 per engagement!

In the era of social distancing where virtual interaction is king, we simply decided to bow down to it. The perfect solution to beat lockdown woes? Our creation – the fun ‘Fries Down Challenge’ filter on Instagram and we have thousands vouching for it.
